The ‘new normal’ in design

2020 and coronavirus has completed shifted the narrative of residential design.  For years – if not the better part of 2 decades – design has geared towards minimalism and celebrated the details that make up the design.  In reality, this look works really well if you’re hardly at home: out and about for work, school, hitting cafés and the gym, or taking holidays locally and aboard.

As we kiss the crazy year that was 2020 goodbye, perhaps this whole interior design look is about to be upended with what is becoming the ‘new normal’ in 2021.  We’re now more inclined to work, study, be entertained and shop from home.  This means we’re home a lot and perhaps our minimalist design needs to give way to balancing clutter and hosting a lot of new different functions at home.  And this, without a doubt, certainly brings a different set of stresses into our space!

The hottest item currently on the agenda for many is a dedicated space to work from home as many corporations pivot.  There are seemingly endless ways you could set up a dedicated workspace from home for any number of occupants – regardless if you own or rent your home. You may be happy with some joinery built integrating a concealed desk that could be popped within an existing space and can move with you; or, at the other end of the scale, you may need a dedicated ‘shut the world out’ space in which you could explore some spatial planning with us.  The options are endless and the home workspace design ultimately needs to be tailored to you.

Where to start in 2021?  Some smart spatial planning or a fresh perspective on your space could help you layer the various functions needed to bring back harmony – and retain a sense of calm! – without being packed to the rafters.  Reach out to us and we’ll help you get started in the new year.
